Fight against Ebola
Some months ago, the Ebola virus was threatening the health of dozens of people in the Equateur province in western DRC. A total of 49 persons lost their lives due to the infection. Scholarship fellows Tcheusi, Irène, Elias, Nestor und Venant had the idea to include these current issues into their weekly teaching in order to raise awareness about the Ebola virus. As part of their social commitment, this group of students visits school classes and provides information on issues like hygiene or HIV/AIDS. Being made aware of these issues, school students can themselves contribute in spreading knowledge about it. The internet is an important tool of research for the group that is furthermore supported by the working group in Tübingen through background research and provision of information material.
Since no new Ebola infections have been recorded in the DRC during 42 days, the Congolese government has declared the epidemic to have ended in November 2014.
