The Scholarship Program - Infinity Centre

Program start: 2015

Total number of scholarship recipients: more than 24

Current number of scholarship recipients: 7 (as of November 2025)

Since early 2015, Studieren Ohne Grenzen has been enabling young adults in need of financial support in the north of the country to participate in accredited AAT courses (Association of Accounting Technicians) at the Infinity Centre for Higher Studies.

Since November 2024, the Infinity Centre has also been offering a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Tamil language. The course lasts 3 years.

The scholarship covers the course fees for participants who are unable to pay these costs themselves.

Cooperation partner: Infinity Centre

The Infinity Centre for Higher Studies is a private educational institution founded in 2013 in northeastern Sri Lanka with the aim of enabling people to study regardless of gender, religion, or ethnicity. Over several years, the center has been able to open additional locations and thus expand its offerings. It offers computer courses and courses in computer science, marketing and tourism, soft skills training, accounting, and more.

The Infinity Centre plays a key role in the selection process and is responsible for assessing financial need. Based on this assessment, the institute proposes potential scholarship recipients.

Scholarship recipients' projects:

Scholarship recipients either support local NGOs or organize their own local projects, such as creating a public vegetable garden or raising awareness about alcohol addiction. Depending on their involvement, they can directly apply their newly acquired skills.

The scholarship program – Action Forum (discontinued)

Program start: 2016

Program end: 2023 (due to a lack of local cooperation partners)

Total number of recipients: 3 scholarship recipients

In the heavily rural east of the country, Studieren Ohne Grenzen (Study Without Borders) worked with the organization Action Forum for Social Development to support committed students in their studies. The program was not tied to any specific university, so a wide variety of subjects could be supported. Since 2020, it has also been possible to receive funding for a master's degree program after completing a bachelor's degree.

The scholarship mainly comprised financial support to cover living expenses, travel costs to the university, and learning materials. The scholarship amount was linked to the regional cost of living. In addition, the scholarship holders were in direct contact with a member of Studieren Ohne Grenzen in Germany.

Scholarship holders' projects:

The scholarship holders' projects were usually implemented during their studies. Through their projects, the scholarship holders provided impetus for lasting social change and acted as educational multipliers. The skills they learned during their studies were thus made available to a wider audience. For example, one scholarship holder studying medicine is conducting awareness campaigns on dengue fever.

Cooperation partners:

The scholarship recipients were selected in close cooperation with a local school, which nominated former students who had demonstrated particular commitment for the application process. Unfortunately, this cooperation could not be continued in 2022 and, despite an intensive search, no new cooperation partner could be found.
